Welcome to our home…

Welcome!

We are Max and Emma Akroyd. We live on a smallholding in Finistère with our five children.

Unconvinced that industrial society can be relied upon indefinitely, for the last three years we have been working like peasants to convert six acres of rough pasture into something which will feed our family. We keep pigs, goats, ducks, geese, hens, guinea fowl – anything edible which will also help work the land. The challenge of growing fruit and vegetables in the unhelpful Breton climate occupies much of our time and thoughts. Working together and converting the good things we grow into lovely food is our reward.

Inspired by the local landscape and our work within it, Emma produces paintings and craft items. She also sells home baked cakes at our local markets. You will also find Max on twitter. If you feel inspired to witness what we’re doing first hand we offer gite holidays too.
