It’s Sunday – I think…(527)
by Max Akroyd
With the year’s finishing line in sight my gardening pace has degenerated into a disorganised stagger. Having kept Christmas distractions at bay with an SAS level of preparedness, the weather has managed to undermine my efforts to get those final things up-to-date in the garden. In fact, given the amount of snow we’ve had, I couldn’t even see those final things. Oh well, that 2010 me is going to get a rag tag assortment of minor tasks by way of a late Christmas present.
The same precipitation which is presumably burying my UK-dwelling friends and relatives in snow today is falling here as heavy rain; or maybe it’s wet sleet. Hard to tell from in here and I’m in no rush to go out there. I’ve pretty much completed my indoor jobs outside (if you see what I mean) and the prospect of what to do today is as blurred as trying to work out what day of the week it is after mid-December. Wait a minute it’s Sunday! That’s meant to be my day off… now there’s a plan.
I know the feeling of disorganised chaos in the garden. Completely changing mine this year has lead to much stress and battles. I am hoping that when things start to grow next year it will be worth it.
Keep going, I would love to do what you are doing,
No snow in Milford On Sea, we are protected by the IOW:)
One last thing, although the ground hard I am always clearing Ivy away uugh.
Good morning Michelle, and thank you for your comment and the encouragement.
Although I’m still huddled inside the rain has now stopped and the animals need feeding so I guess today and I are going to get acquainted after all!
Clearing ivy is an excellent cold weather suggestion. Bit intimidating here: ivy in Brittany being a rampant barn-eating monster! Do you have any strategies for getting rid of it – assuming naphalm isn’t an option?
Yes, it is Sunday all day. And, in my book, it is a holiday. If I had the power to give you the day off, I would. 🙂
Hi Gardenatrix, I wonder what time of day it is where you are – maybe I’m talking about yesterday, or tomorrow!
Anyway, thank you for that kind thought but it turned into a pig house clearance and animal feed collection spectacular in the end. Oh well, perhaps a day indoors is a day wasted?
You’re as bad as my Hubby, he was sat (sat!!) having a coffee and he said….’it’s funny it feels almost like a Sunday today’!!
Work does’n’t stop when you have animals unfortunately, but once they are all fed and tucked up for the night, Sunday evening is always ‘our’ time, a real night off with the TV on and a couple of cans of cider and a roaring logs fire.
Sets you up for the week good and proper!!
Sue xx
Evening Sue!
That Sunday evening sounds like a splendid prescription… unfortunately the only alcohol in the house is a quarter bottle of whiskey my Dad left here two years ago… if I drank that there may be no Monday at all.
(It is Monday tomorrow, right?)
Enjoy your day off-it’s certainly not easy getting on with outdoor chores at this time of year. Still, shortest day tomorrow-soon be spring !
Hello threadspider: in my odd world tomorrow is a very special day indeed. Start of a new year really and, however slowly, a return of the light.
We’ve almost done the difficult bit, and in a just a few weeks I’ll be sowing aubergines and tomatoes… can’t wait!
