Strawberry season (22 days to go…)
by Max Akroyd
Some things didn’t like August in April. I planted hundreds of broad beans in October for nothing. And the peas sown at the same time are looking pallid and weedy. But, for some reason, none of this seems to matter today!

I might pop over and drop that book off. Just occurred to me after looking at that photo for some reason…
Better be quick – chocolate fudge cake going fast! (Wipes crumbs from face)…
Forget the chocolate fudge cake, I’m coming over for the strawberries! Look fabulous.
*drool* wow Max, beautiful strawbs! And of course you know what to do with any excess… *chink* strawberry wine and champagne, wonderful stuff! Perfect with fudge cake, well anything is perfect with fudge cake!! I attempted broad bean wine, not an exercise I shall be repeating…!

ok, ok you smallholding lot. Stop bragging!!! All we have here is a small Proxi supermarket with wizened fruit and veg – looking for the sympathy vote here as I weep copiously into the canal.
Oh….wow. Yummy….your strawberries have won!! I have 2 ready to eat in the polytunnel, now if I don’t tell Lovely Hubby that’s 2 for me……
I’ll share the others……honest!!
I’ve just noticed 22 days to go……exciting.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Am presently reading 101 Recipes for strawberries… rhubarb is suddenly so last month…
Dear Max,
I thought the strawberries would be small and wizened here due to lack of rain, but no they look nearly as good as yours.
Speaking of recipes have you tried Great Aunt Florries Strawberry pie…my blog June 17th last year: Shirley Poppy?
Yes I have crawled out from the all consuming obstacle race i.e. making happy arrangments for elderly and deserving godmother who was about to be dealt with by the highly efficient branch of the family.
